Established in 1972 as Planned Parenthood Waterloo Region, the name was changed to the current Sexual Health Options, Resources, and Education - SHORE Centre in 2004. The Birth Control Centre at the University of Waterloo served as the inspiration for the Centre, which was established to provide all members of our community with information and assistance about sexual health.

The SHORE Centre's Vision is of a society where individuals are free to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. When it comes to sexual and reproductive health care, SHORE Centre provides services that are both remarkable and welcoming, intending to preserve the worth of every member of our community.
