Political Activities Description

The Federation of Ontario Naturalists (operating as Ontario Nature) engaged in the following political activities, all of which have direct impact on the organization's charitable purpose i.e. the protection of Ontario' wild species and wild spaces: *Opposing changes to the Endangered Species Act 2007 that allow delay, limitation and removal of protections for listed at-risk species, allowing industries and others to proceed with activities that conflict with a key purpose of the Act, namely "to protect species that are at risk and their habitats, and to promote the recovery of species that are at risk." *Opposing Schedule 10 of Bill 66 which proposed allowing municipalities to by-pass protections under the Clean Water Act, 2006, the Greenbelt Plan, the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and the Lake Simcoe Protection Act which would have negative consequences for Ontario's wild species and wild spaces. *Opposing the Government of Ontario's plan to allow anyone with a small game hunting license to kill up to 50 double-crested cormorants a day from March 15 until December 31 each year. *Opposing the Government of Ontario's plan to eliminate the office of the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario (ECO) and transfer much of its responsibility to the jurisdiction of the Auditor General.
